The kings palace. So much effort gone into the beautiful detail of this place. During world war 2 and ship carrying all the furniture for this palace was sunk by the German army. A man who had escaped the war in Europe came to India and helped re create it all in Jodhpur. One part of this palace is now a hotel. Costing 6,000 rupees just to enter and 85,000 rupees for a room for one night. That is just over £1000 for one night's sleep. I can only imagine what it must look like inside. I wasn't allowed past the gate. . . . #hotel #fortherich #superrich #india #king #palace #huge #ruppee #pounds #thousandpounds #room #travel #culture #war #worldwar2 #passion #learning #instadaily #instagram

The 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade was created in September 1941. They were based in Scotland and under the command of Major General Stanisław Sosabowski. The Brigade was formed by the Polish High Command in exile and was responsible only to Polish command and the government-in-exile, based in London, and their sole purpose was to ready themselves for the time when they would be parachuted into Poland to assist in the liberation of their homeland. However, as the war developed it became increasingly clear that this plan was unrealistic, and with the Allied invasion of Europe looming, there was a lot of pressure for the Brigade to come under British rule. Further pressure followed until a settlement was at last reached in June 1944. It was agreed that the Brigade would carry out one Allied operation following the Normandy Invasion, after which they would be free to return to Poland at an appropriate juncture. The Brigade was incorporated into the 1st Allied Airborne Army, and placed under the command of Major-General Urquhart. Since the Polish General Staff planned to use the Brigade to assist a national uprising in Poland, the soldiers of the 1st Polish Para were to be the first element of the Polish Army in Exile to reach their homeland. Hence the unofficial motto of the unit was: “THE SHORTEST WAY”. On the 01/08/1944 Warsaw Uprising started. The Brigade was ready to be dropped by parachute into Warsaw to aid their colleagues from the Polish Home Army, who were fighting a desperate battle against overwhelming odds. However, the distance was too great for the transport aircraft to make a round trip and access to Soviet airfields was denied. Eventually, the Brigade entered combat when it was dropped during Operation Market Garden in September 1944. They bravely fought around and in City of Driel. In 1945, the Brigade was attached to the Polish 1st Armoured Division and undertook occupation duties in Northern Germany until it was disbanded on 30/06/1947. The majority of its soldiers chose to stay in exile rather than hazard returning to the new Communist Poland. CONTINUE IN COMMENTS ⬇️

The versatile MG 34 was arguably the most advanced machine gun in the world at the time of its deployment.[3] Its combination of exceptional mobility – being light enough to be carried by one man – and high rate of fire (of up to 900 rounds per minute) was unmatched.[3] It entered service in great numbers following Hitler's repudiation of the Versailles Treaty in 1936, and was first combat tested by German troops aiding Franco's Nationalists in the Spanish Civil War. Nonetheless, the design proved too complex for mass production, and was supplemented by the cheaper and simpler MG 42, though both remained in service and production until the end of the war. A unique feature of the MG 34 was its double-crescent trigger, which provided select fire capability without the need for a fire mode selector switch. Pressing the upper segment of the trigger produced semi-automatic fire, while holding the lower segment of the trigger produced fully automatic fire. #worldwar2 #ww2dailyhistory #ww2 #l4l #waffenss #wehrmacht

This is highkey the most colossal work ive read. I had to stop and watch youtube vids periodically to understand the basics of nuclear physics, just to keep up. The detail would be too immense if it wasnt so skillfully crafted around easy to understand character archs. Im not sure i can go back to being who i was before reading this. We do not know what the rules of the game are; all we are allowed to do is to watch the playing. Of course, if we watch long enough, we may eventually catch on to a few of the rules. The rules of the game are what we mean by fundamental physics. Even if we know every rule, however . . . what we really can explain in terms of those rules is very limited, because almost all situations are so enormously complicated that we cannot follow the plays of the game using the rules, much less tell what is going to happen next. We must, therefore, limit ourselves to the more basic question of the rules of the game. If we know the rules, we consider that we “understand” the world.

The trial of the 47-year-old Hoess began on March 11, 1947, in the auditorium of the ZNP [Polish Teachers’ Union] in the Powiśle district of Warsaw, which was the only auditorium large enough for the proceedings at the time. It held about 500 people. The British had arrested Hoess, who was one of the most sought-after war criminals. He appeared on the witness stand several times during at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. While never denying that he had committed crimes, he contended that he had only been following orders. Hoess was turned over to Poland in 1946. He was calm and controlled during his trial. He had no illusions about the fate that awaited him. To the end, he contended that, at the most, a million and a half people had died at Auschwitz, not 5 or 6 million. At the end of the trial, he requested the court’s permission to send his wedding ring to his wife. The court annouGerman POWs erected the gallows, with a trap door, at dawn. It cannot be ruled out that they were also the hangmen. No one was admitted to the grounds without a special pass. Armed, uniformed guards stood everywhere. Hoess arrived at 8 a.m. and was taken to the building that had once housed the commandant’s office. There, he asked for a cup of coffee. Once he had drunk it, he was led to a cell in the “bunker,” the camp jail in Block no. 11, also known as the “Death Block.”Hoess was led out punctually at 10 a.m. He was calm. With energetic steps, almost strutting, he walked along the main camp street. Since his hands were handcuffed behind his back, the executioners had to help him climb onto the stool placed above the trapdoor. A priest, whose presence had been requested by the condemned man, approached the gallows. This was Father Tadeusz Zaremba, a Salesian from Oświęcim.A prosecutor read out the sentence. The hangman placed the noose on Hoess’s neck, and Hoess adjusted it with a movement of his head. When the hangman pulled the stool his body struck the trapdoor, which opened, leaving Hoess hanging. Hand to hand combat training. From 1939 to 1945, due to the war, no further development of martial arts took place. After the Second World War , among other things Jiu-Jitsu and judo have been banned by the Directive No. 23 concerning the limitation and demilitarisation of the sports system in Germany of the Act of the Board . Only after lengthy negotiations in 1949 the Directive No. 23 gradually lifted in all zones of occupation and first re-released the training of judo and later also of JIU jitsu. #worldwar2 #ww2dailyhistory #ww2 #l4l #waffenss #wehrmacht
